Also known as Secretary Day, or Admin Day, Admin Professional’s Day is right around the corner!
Have a special admin in your life? Here’s everything you need to know about the day and how to best celebrate them for all they do:
Administrative Professional’s Day is exactly what it sounds like!
It’s a day to honor the administrative assistants around you! Every April, you have the opportunity to recognize their hard work and show your appreciation for your secretaries, receptionists, administrative assistants, and other administrative support professionals on Administrative Professionals Day.
Administrative Professionals Day has been around since 1952 as a part of National Secretaries Week.
Today, National Secretaries Week is still celebrated the last full week of April every year. It wasn’t until 2000 that the ‘day celebration’ of secretaries was dubbed Administrative Professionals Day.
And so the day was born! The Wednesday of National Secretaries Week has been recognized as Administrative Professionals Day ever since!
It’s pretty obvious that administrative professionals are an essential part of any business, big or small – and they always have been.
Secretary roles date way back to the 15th century and possibly even earlier. The 1880s called for a huge demand for these professionals across all workplaces as the role of typewriter emerged.
Following World War II in the 1950s, the world saw increased demand for secretarial help. With more women entering the workforce than ever before, fulfilling these secretarial positions, many women’s liberation groups were formed as a result leading to groups that would end up fighting for equal rights well in to the 1970s and also fueled the then National Secretaries Association’s training courses covering more advance courses like accounting.
Their goal?
To help secretaries network with and learn from one another, share news, train, and take courses to become leaders within their organizations. Secretaries have always been — and continue to — adapt to the workplace and technological changes to become leaders in their organizations.
Having fresh flowers delivered right to their desk (or in this virtual world we’re currently residing in – their front door) is the best way to let them know just how much you appreciate all that they do!
It’s simple, and it’s sweet and so thoughtful!
Who doesn’t love chocolates!?
…Well, we guess some people don’t, but USUALLY, you can never go wrong with chocolates.
Not to mention, they’re the perfect partner in crime with fresh flowers if you really want to step it up.
Out to lunch!
What better way to say you appreciate someone than a free lunch!
Take them to their favorite mid-day spot, or send them a handy dandy DashDoor or Grubhub gift card for lunch on you!
