Ideas for a Long Distance Mother’s Day

We know Mother’s Day 2021 may, or may not, look quite a bit different than previous years.

Whether you and Mom will be far or near this year, we’re here to help!

Just because you might not be able to be together in person, doesn’t mean this Mother’s Day can’t be just as great, no… even better than any Mother’s Day before!

Let’s check out these 7 creative, heartfelt ideas to show Mom love from a distance this Mother’s Day!

1. Make Her A Video

If seeing Mom in person this year is just not going to happen, don’t let that hold you back!

Whip out your camera (or your iPhone), and send her a cute, quirky message via video!

Tell her about something funny that happened to you that day, a new show you’ve been watching that you think she’d like, or a book you just finished that made you laugh until you cried.

Just order a new chair for your living room? Tell her all about it!

Try out a new to-die-for recipe or cocktail? Walk her through how to make it herself!

She’ll love not only getting to see your face but also hear all about what’s going on in your life.

Not to mention, she can re-watch it whenever she starts to miss the sound of your voice!

2. A Scrapbook Full of Memories

Put your crafting hat on and get to work! Make Mom a scrapbook filled with pictures of the two of you together, siblings, friends, trips, and vacations you’ve taken together.

Include some mementos like movie tickets, the Playbill from the time you saw the Lion King on Broadway, or the plane tickets from your trip to Hawaii 2 summers ago that are collecting dust in a box underneath your bed.

Seem to have misplaced your crafting hat (or maybe never had a crafting hat to begin with, like me)?

Check out Smilebox to create a free digital scrapbook to send directly to Mom!

3. Have Flowers Delivered

Have a custom, handcrafted bouquet of flowers delivered right to her doorstep!

Using a Lovingly florist, you can have the in-store experience from the comfort of your own home!

Just answer a few questions about the occasion and how you want her to feel when she receives her fresh bouquet, and a local florist takes care of the rest!

She’ll love the extra thought that went into the arrangement, and you’ll relish in how quick and easy it was to order it!

4. Send A Gift Pack

Have a customizable gift pack like this one by Hudson Square Boutique delivered! Perfect for the fashion-savvy Mom in your life!

Mom’s can make Wishlists on their website, you give them a call or shoot them an email, and they make sure Mom gets exactly what she wants!

But don’t think you have to adhere to a store-bought gift basket, get creative, and make your own gift pack to send to Mom!

Include all of her favorites:

  • Pictures
  • Candy
  • A handwritten note or letter
  • A book you know she won’t be able to put down

If you’re not sure what her favorite candy is, don’t stress, she’ll love it all because you chose it specifically for her.

5. Start A Book Club

Handpick a few books to get you both started and send them on over to Mom!

You can have them sent directly from the store or go the extra mile and create a cute care package out of them, packed with everything she may need for a cozy night spent reading by the fire.

  • A pair of ultra-soft plush socks. (I swear by these Field & Stream Cozy Cabin Socks.)
  • A super cool book light so she can read any time, any place!
  • And of course, a candle to ensure max relaxation! This Thank you, Mom candle by Homesick imitates the scent of fresh flowers and breakfast sizzling away on the stove. To make it even better? She’ll be reminded just how much you love her each time she lights it.

Or check out Book of the Month for a monthly book box subscription! You get to choose from 5 top-selling books every month, decide how many you want, and get to reading!

6. Plan A Spa Day

Send a gift basket filled with naturally curated products Mom’s way!

Checkout for luxurious, yet affordable custom gift baskets filled with soaps, body wash, lotions, and scrubs! (And don’t think we forgot about foot scrubs, sandal season is upon us after all).

You also have the opportunity to create your own gift basket for Mom by picking a theme based off of different scents like lavender or citrus.

Send a whole self-care regiment that will leave Mom feeling more relaxed and refreshed than ever before!

Want to give her something to look forward to? Book a spa day in advance or purchase a gift card for her to use whenever she’d like!

Send her on over to Buttermilk Falls Inn + Spa to enjoy natural treatments such as Facial Therapies, HydraFacial Treatments, and Body Therapies. She’ll let go of toxins in the steam room, cool off in the pool, and end the day right with a ‘Spa Lunch’ and a refreshing juice from the Juice Bar!

7. Check Out Different Online Courses

There are SO many online courses available out there!

Is Mom interested in all things plants and flowers? Check out Holly Heider Chapple’s Hope Flower Farm School of Floral Design!

Mom can learn how to make an elegant centerpiece, get in-depth training in the art of writing the floral recipe, create a flawless flower wall, or create an elevated floral design that’s sure to add class and decadence to any occasion!

Holly also offers DIY floral packages including fresh flowers, a compote bowl, and access to an online instructional video to walk her through every step!

Is Mom more of a music or film lover? Masterclass offers lectures and instructional learning in comedy, filmmaking, acting, and all things music.

The coolest part? A-list celebrities like Christina Aguilera, Martin Scorsese, and Natalie Portman will be her instructors. You know what they say! If you’re going to learn, you might as well learn from the best!

No matter what you decide to do to spoil Mom this Mother’s Day, don’t allow physical distance to hold you back from making her feel loved, cherished, and appreciated!
